How to Maintain a Drug Free Workplace
Increased productivity, morale, and company success are all linked to a drug free work environment. Ensuring your company is running in tip-top shape can be difficult!
Here are some tips:
1.Drug Testing
In order to establish and maintain a drug-free work place, you obviously must ensure that your employees are sober. Drug testing is a scientific, systematic way to find out whether or not a future or current employee is using recreational drugs. Drug tests could be administered before an employee is hired, or sporadically throughout the year.
2. Strong Leadership
As the boss of a company, you must lead by example. The best way for a leader to emphasize a drug-free atmosphere is by practicing what you preach! Set clear boundaries between personal friendships and workplace relationships.
3. Open Communication
Communication is key in any setting. If an employeeʼs drug use becomes apparent and is interfering with the workplace, the other employees affected should be able to easily communicate that there is a problem.
4. Rewards & Punishments
Celebrate the good actions and behaviors of your employees, such as conscientiousness and punctuality. Employees will feel empowered when the little things they do from day to day get noticed. Be strict with punishments as well, because if one employee realizes he or she can get away with bending the rules, more employees will follow suit.
5. Respect
Have respect for your employees, and they should respect you. Understand the legalities, stigma, and embarrassment that are involved with drug use and abuse. The reason to create a drug-free workplace is to ensure that everyone is working in a healthy, productive environment!
